Conceptual ideas 


For the component 3 I have chosen to do a music video, a last year for As media studies I created an opening scene for a film. For my music video I have chosen the song "Breath Me", by Sia, my main idea is to create a teenage atmosphere that shows all the problems they suffer on their day to day. This song is a song written about depression and how she needed a friend when she was in that mental state. Sia is transmitting her audience of what it feel to be lone and lost in hard moments, in this way with the lyrics I am able to communicate the same idea. 


My idea is to create an artistic music video, that include instruments and a calm ambience to transmit the meaning of the song and to present the significance of the lyric and how Sia is representing it. 




In order to create this idea a have done research on this genre and different types of  music videos I can get ideas from. The songs that I found that are similar to "Breathe me" are: 
- Stay by Rihanna 



















- Say Something by A Great Big World



























- Skinny Love by Birdy 


















 

The video of 'Stay' by Rihanna ft. Mikky Ekko, is portraying the heartbreak of a relationship and the agony of losing contact with that person. Rihanna is firstly presented with close ups of her taking her clothes of, this makes the audience have a strong first appearance of the main singer. As all the video evolves around the bath tub as they are mainly filmed inside it, starting with this closeups of her getting undressed and close ups of the water dripping down which makes the narrative start. And also this could give the audience an inside of what the video is going to be about. The songs lyrics link a lot to the video as it is represented exactly what it says, as there are portraying loneliness by being alone in the bathtub and in the bathroom. 

The close ups in Rihanna's face makes the focus of the audience only be in that and that could also show her facial expressions more closely. Additionally the lack of makeup link to the narrative of the video as she is going through a breakup and it reflects sadness. 

The "Say Something" music video by A Great Big World breaks down into three escenarios and it is all recorded in a large dark room, which makes the video very simple and minimalistic. The first situation is a couple of young adults that are laying in a mattress in the middle of this big dark room. This reflects the situation in which the relationship is damaged and there is no way to get it back; this is showed  as the couple is positioned and their body and face language. 

The second situation is a little girl which is showed alone in a bed in the middle of the room. The little girl is presenting loneliness and it is also reflecting fear as she is showed hiding underneath the bed sheets and hiding underneath the bed, as if she was scared of something. 

The third and last situation is an elderly couple that the an is laying in a hospital bed also in the middle of the room and his wife with him. This situation is the most heartbreaking as it is showing the end of his life and how the wife is going to be when he is not there. It also portrays the importance of love and how love can last for years and even until death. 

These three situations are three different generation and it is showing the three different fears and problems each one has. This makes the video seem sad and grey, because of the use of simple colours like grey, white and black. additionally, only using one location and a very simple location makes the audience focus on the story line of the music video.

The music video 'Skinny Love' by Birdy is set in an old house which is very simple and antique, the colours of the house are mainly grey and white. Her costume goes with the aesthetic of the video as she wears a white dress and also a black dress, which connote with the colours of the house and the atmosphere. She is mainly shown singing the song and playing the piano which makes the audience perceive her as she id feeling the song and not only singing it. The atmosphere of the house also seems dirty which reflects that the house hasen't been cleaned for a long time, that also presents sadness. There are a lot of close ups used that makes the audience feel more connected to the singer and there are also able to see the facial expressions easily which can show her deepest emotions.
